13.00 STYLE WARS

Directed by: Tony Silver, Henry Chalfant
USA 1983
69 min

Style Wars captures the look and feel of New York’s ramshackle subway system as
the graffiti writers’ public playground, battleground and spectacular artistic
canvas. Opposing them by every means possible were Mayor Edward Koch, the
police, and the New York Transit Authority.
Meanwhile, MC’s, DJ’s and B-boys were rocking the city with new sounds and new
moves, as street corner breakdance battles became performance art. The
soundtrack features classics performed by The Sugar Hill Gang, The Treacherous
Three, The Fearless Four, Grand Master Flash and The Furious Five, Trouble Funk,
Rammellzee/K-Rob and Dion.

15.00 THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND

Directed by: Sam Green, Bill Siegel
USA 2002
92 min

"Hello. I’m going to read a declaration of war… Within the next 14 days we will
attack a symbol of American justice."
- Former Underground Member Bernardine Dohrn

Thirty years ago, with these words, a group of young American radicals announced
their intention to overthrow the U.S. government. Fueled by outrage over the
Vietnam War and racism in America, they went underground during the 1970s,
bombing targets across the country that they felt symbolized "the real violence"
that the U.S. government and capitalist power were wreaking throughout the
world. From pitched battles with police on Chicago's city streets, to bombing
the U.S. Capitol building, to breaking acid-guru Timonthy Leary out of prison,
this carefully organized clandestine network attempted to incite a national
revolution, while successfully evading one of the largest FBI manhunts in
history.

This award-winning film interweaves extensive archival material with modern-day
interviews to explore the incredible story of "The Weather Underground." As
former members reflect candidly about the idealistic passion that drove them to
"bring the war home," they paint a compelling portrait of troubled and
revolutionary times, with unexpected and often striking connections to the
current world situation.

17.00 SUPER SIZE ME

Directed by: Morgan Spurlock
USA 2004
96 min

Why are Americans so fat? Two words: fast food. What would happen if you ate
nothing but fast food for an entire month? Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock does just
that and embarks on the most perilous journey of his life. The rules? For 30
days he can't eat or drink anything that isn't on McDonald's menu; he must wolf
three squares a day; he must consume everything on the menu at least once and
supersize his meal if asked. Spurlock treks across the country interviewing a
host of experts on fast food and an equal number of regular folk while chowing
down at the Golden Arches. Spurlock's grueling drive-through diet spirals him
into a physical and emotional metamorphosis that will make you think twice about
picking up another Big Mac.

19.00 SACRIFICIO – WHO BETRAYED CHE GUEVARA?

Directed by: Eric Gandini, Tarik Saleh
Sweden 2001
60 min

On the 9th of October 1967 at 1.10 PM sgt. Teran stepped into the room where Che
Guevara was kept and shot him.

After a year of guerrilla warfare in Bolivia together with a small group of 52
comerades, Che was now dead.
His dream of uniting Latin America through armed revolution put to an end. The
person who more than other has been doomed in the history books as guilty of
Ches death is his former lieutenant, Ciro Bustos.
When captured he drew Ches portrait for the Bolivian army. Since then he has
been living in silence. He now appears for the first time in a documentary film.
His version of the events raises questions about how history is written.

13.00 THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION

Directed by: Penelope Spheeris
USA 1981
100 min

The Los Angeles punk music scene circa 1980 is the focus of this film. With
Alice Bag Band, Black Flag, Catholic Discipline, Circle Jerks, Fear, Germs, and
X.

15.00 THE YES MEN

Directed by: Dan Olman, Sarah Price, Chris Smith
USA 2003
83 min

The Yes Men follows a couple of anti-corporate activist-pranksters as they
impersonate WTO spokesmen on TV and at business conferences around the world.
The story follows Andy and Mike from their beginnings with GWBush.com, and  on
to their tasteless parody of the WTO´s website. Some visitors don’t notice the
site is a fake, and send speaking invitations meant for the real WTO. Mike and
Andy play along with the ruse and soon find themselves attending important
functions as WTO representatives.
Delighted to speak for the organization they oppose, Andy and Mike don
thrift-store suits and set out to shock their unwitting audiences with darkly
comic satires on global free trade. Weirdly, the experts don’t notice the joke
and seem to agree with every terrible idea the two can come up with.

17.00 COPE 2 - KINGS DESTROY

Directed by: Philip Thorne
USA 1999
90 min

The film cronicles the history of graffiti writer COPE 2 and his crew Kings
Destroy.
The Kings Destroy crew started in the Bronx around 1982. The original name of
the crew was Kids Destroy. Membership has included SPEL, REO, KIE (rip), STON 3,
AM, SKEET, MED, TRIM, JEZ, OVIE, SAZE, and many others. Their most concentrated
bombing efforts were on the IRT 4 line during the early 1980s. They effectivly
hit other IRTs such as the 5 and 2 lines as well as the D and CC lines of the
IND division. As the crew's presence on the subway increased their name was
changed to Kings Destroy. The crew continued to write well past the peak and
decline of subway graffiti. KD put forth strong efforts within the clean train
movement, street bombing as well as the large-scale murals being created in the
Bronx and through out the New York City.

19.00 SURPLUS: TERRORIZED INTO BEING CONSUMERS

Directed by: Erik Gandini, Johan Söderberg
Sweden 2003
52 min

Consumer confidence has been low since September 11. A successful war against
Iraq was supposed to be the only way to restore that confidence - and our
happiness. But is shopping our salvation? Do we have a choice?

Why is the lifestyle of consumerism a source of such rage today?
How come the privilege of buying goods does not automatically lead to happiness?
Why all this emptiness despite our wealth?

Surplus’ approach is to portray this issue from an emotional rather than a
factual perspective: in the US, India, China, Italy, Sweden, Hungary, Canada and
Cuba.
Surplus main man is John Zerzan, whose call for PROPERTY DAMAGE has inspired
many to take to the streets.

20.30 CARANDIRU

Directed by: Hector Babenco
Brazil 2003
148 min

These narratives, set both inside and outside the prison Carandiru Station in
Sao Paolo, culminate in the infamous October 1992 Pavillion 9 massacre, in which
111
unarmed inmates were killed. The episode rendered in the words of our
characters, who emerge at the end of the film as its survivors. ”Carandiru is
not the story of the massacre, but about those who somehow lived to recount it.”
One of the fundamental aims of this project is to open the gates of the largest
prison in Latin America to the eyes of the general public, through the life
stories of the men who make their homes within its walls.
